Worried about a child?

At Glusburn Community Primary School, children’s safety and wellbeing come first. If you are worried that a child may be experiencing abuse, neglect or harm, please share your concern promptly. You do not need to be certain that something is wrong to ask for help.

If a child is in immediate danger, call 999.

Speak to our safeguarding team

To raise a concern during school hours, call 01535 632145 and ask to speak to our Designated Safeguarding Lead or a deputy.

Designated Safeguarding Lead:
Neil Bithell, Deputy Headteacher
neil.bithell@glusburn.n-yorks.sch.uk

Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads:

  • Katie Smith, Headteacher

  • Linsey Sanderson, Head of Early Years

  • Rachel Woodier

We take concerns seriously and share information with the appropriate services when needed to protect a child.

Make a referral to North Yorkshire Children’s Social Care

Anyone can report a concern directly. You do not need to contact the school first.

For urgent concerns that do not require an immediate police response, call 0300 131 2 131 and say “children’s social care” when prompted.

Outside office hours—Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm—use the same number to reach the Emergency Duty Team. Do not wait for school to reopen.

For non-urgent concerns:

Give as much information as you can about the child, your concerns, relevant dates and any immediate risks. Do not delay reporting because you do not have every detail.

Alternatively, download the current Universal Referral Form from the North Yorkshire referral guidance page and send it to social.care@northyorks.gov.uk.

Professionals seeking advice before referring can call 01609 535070, Monday to Friday, 10am–4pm, excluding bank holidays.

Worried about an adult who works or volunteers with children?

The Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) advises on and oversees the handling of allegations about adults working or volunteering with children. This includes concerns that an adult may have harmed a child, committed an offence involving a child, posed a risk to children or behaved in a way that raises doubts about their suitability to work with children.

Raise concerns about a school employee or volunteer with the Headteacher. If the concern is about the Headteacher, contact the Chair of Governors, Claire Clayton-Stead, at cclayton-stead@glusburn.n-yorks.sch.uk.

North Yorkshire LADO contact details

Telephone: 01609 798005
Email: lado@northyorks.gov.uk

For advice, contact the Duty LADO. To make a notification, access the LADO Notification Form through the North Yorkshire LADO page and send the completed form by secure email to lado@northyorks.gov.uk. If you do not have secure email, telephone the LADO during office hours for advice on submitting it.

Organisations should notify the LADO within one working day when the allegation meets the referral criteria. A LADO notification does not replace contacting the police or Children’s Social Care where a child needs protection.

If you are worried about a child, please speak up. Your concern could help keep them safe.
